1. TASK 1: EXPLORATION
• What have I learnt in this module?
I learnt how to observe and analyze an artwork using design principles that were learnt in class. A decent artwork fulfills design principles so it looks visually balanced and pleasing to the viewer. By going through step by step leaning of tasks, I began to understand how elements such as balance, contrast, emphasis, and repetition work together to create a strong composition When creating my artwork of Rapunzel, I applied these design principles to guide my decisions. I was able to organize my composition more effectively and avoid making the artwork look messy. This experience helped me realize that design principles are not just theoretical concepts, but practical tools that improve both the visual quality and clarity of my work.
• What did I enjoy the most?
I enjoyed working on my own artwork as I get to choose my own theme and express my creativity freely. This allowed me to explore my ideas and make personal decisions in terms of composition, colors, and overall style. I also enjoyed the process of developing my Rapunzel artwork, as I could apply the design principles I learnt and see how they improved my work. This made the experience more meaningful and satisfying as I was able to create something that reflects both my skills and my personal interests.
• What did I not enjoy the most?
I did not really enjoy the part where I had to conduct a visual analysis of the chosen artwork. I find that I am more interested in learning through actual practice and hands on experiences rather than theory based information. While I understand that analysis is important for building knowledge of design principles, I personally find it more engaging and effective to learn by creating and experimenting with my own artwork.
• What have I learnt about myself through this module?
I think I can naturally apply design principles in my artworks. When I draw, I do not really think about the design principles consciously, but the final composition often turn out balanced and visually pleasing. This made me realize that I have an intuitive sense of design, which has likely developed through my past experiences with art.
• What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
One thing that changed: At first, I did not think I could do well on painting digitally as I am used to draw and paint on paper, but through the whole process of Task 3, I realized the advantages of digital painting and the results are not as bad as I think. I managed to finish a digital artwork and that gave me a sense of accomplishment.
One thing that did not change: I still procrastinate to complete my work when I lack of motivation or faced some problems that require me to find a way to solve. This slows down my overall progress and cause me to rush to finish my work near the deadline of submission.
• What are my aspirations?
I hope to draw and paint digitally more as it allows me to explore different styles, experiment with colors and improve my overall artistic skills. By that, I can become more confident in using digital tools and techniques while developing my own unique art style. In the future, I aspire to create artworks that are not only visually appealing but also meaningful and where I can apply design principles effectively to communicate ideas and emotions.
